Standard adult paintball uses .68 calibre paintballs at full velocity. Low-impact uses .50 calibre paintballs (about half the volume) at a reduced, chronographed velocity. The hits feel softer because they are softer.

- The fear barrier drops fast. Most kids spend the first 30 seconds of game one a bit nervous. By minute two they’re advancing on cover and shouting tactics.
- Bruising is rare. When it happens it’s small (5p coin) and gone in a day. Most kids don’t pick up a mark at all.
- The kit fits properly. Combat suit, body armour and full-face goggles all sized for 8–10 year olds.

Group Dynamics at This Age
10-year-olds are old enough to follow team tactics and young enough to be properly excited about everything. The group dynamic that works best:
- Group size 8–20 is the sweet spot.
- Mixed-gender works perfectly. 10 is past the “girls vs boys” phase for most kids — they sort themselves into teams happily.
- Mixed-ability is fine. If one kid plays paintball regularly and the others have never been, the regular often ends up captaining their team. Marshals balance teams informally.
- Parental supervision is light-touch. Most parents drop and return; some stay in the Log Lodge.
The Day Itself
Sessions run morning (10:00–12:30) or afternoon (13:30–16:00). Plan to arrive 15 minutes early so kit fitting and the safety briefing happen before the session start time. Standard timeline:
- Arrival + kit-up (15 min) — combat suits and body armour fitted, valuables to lockers, parent signs the group consent form.
- Safety briefing (10 min) — marshals walk the kids through the rules.
- Games 1–6 (~90 min total) — short games with breaks. Marshals adjust intensity to the energy level in the group.
- Food + cake (30–45 min) — back at the Log Lodge or party area.
- Certificates + collection — we hand out certificates if you’ve booked them.
Total time on-site: about 3 hours including food. Kids leave muddy, slightly tired, and asking when the next one is.
What to Wear

What 10-Year-Olds Tell Us After
The pattern is consistent. Kids arrive uncertain, kit up, get briefed, line up for the first game looking nervous. Five minutes in they’re advancing on cover and shouting “I see one!” By the third game they’re calling tactics to teammates. By the cake at the end they’re already asking when they can come back.
The two questions parents most often hear from kids on the journey home: “Can we book again?” and “Why did I think it would be scary?” Both predictable and both common. The activity is much less intimidating in practice than in anticipation.

“What if a friend’s parent doesn’t want their child to do paintball?”
Reasonable concern at this age. Two routes: (1) book outdoor laser tag instead — same forest, no impact. Or (2) accept that one or two kids on the invite list will decline and book accordingly. Most parents say yes once they see the low-impact format details.
“How does this compare to laser tag for this age?”
Same forest, same scenarios. Laser tag has no physical impact (infrared) and from age 7 instead of 8 — better for younger groups or where one kid is genuinely nervous. “What if my child gets nervous on the day?”
Kids opt out of single games regularly — they sit out the round, watch from the safe zone, rejoin for the next. There’s no penalty, no judgement. Most nervous arrivals end up joining game two and being among the most engaged players by game four.
Booking Practicalities
- Lead time: weekend slots in summer book 4–6 weeks ahead. Off-season 2 weeks is usually fine.
- Deposit: we take a deposit at booking to hold the slot, full balance closer to the day. Numbers can usually be adjusted up to 7 days before.
- RSVP attrition: at this age expect 70–80% of confirmed RSVPs to actually show. Book for the confirmed number, not the invited number.
- Date flexibility: if your specific weekend is booked out, we have alternative slots most weeks. Mid-week slots are easier to secure.
